AI cannot replace wisdom as Malaysia pushes holistic education, says Fadhillah

ARTIFICIAL intelligence (AI) may continue to advance, but it will never replace wisdom, compassion or integrity, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Urging education systems to develop character alongside technological progress, he said the rapid pace of digital transformation requires young people to equip themselves not only with knowledge and technical skills, but also with strong moral values and ethical leadership.

“AI may become more intelligent, but it will never replace wisdom. Technology may become faster, but it cannot replace compassion. Information may become limitless, but character remains the true measure of leadership.

“Technology may connect our devices, but only shared values, mutual respect and trust carried by people like you can truly connect our societies,” he said at the opening of the ADNI International Students’ Conference (AISC) 2026 today.

Fadillah said Malaysia’s future competitiveness would depend on developing knowledgeable, ethical, innovative and globally aware citizens capable of navigating increasingly complex global challenges.

He said challenges such as digital transformation, climate change, public health and social inequality cannot be addressed by governments or institutions alone, they require collaboration among governments, educational institutions, the private sector, civil society and young people.

He added that the conference also reflects the aspirations of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting quality education, inclusivity, sustainability and strategic partnerships while encouraging students to develop empathy, leadership, constructive dialogue and social responsibility.

Fadillah also encouraged students to continue pursuing knowledge, embrace diversity and ensure their achievements contribute positively to their families, communities and nations, noting that the future leaders of ASEAN are being shaped by the choices they make today.

Meanwhile, ADNI Islamic School chairman Tan Sri Syed Ali Syed Abbas said education should extend beyond academic excellence by nurturing holistic, balanced and principled individuals who are prepared to serve society.

He said AISC provides students with an opportunity to exchange ideas, broaden perspectives and develop leadership skills while building meaningful connections with peers from across the region.

“Education goes far beyond academic achievement. We strive to nurture young people who are not only knowledgeable, but also principled, compassionate and humble in serving others,” he said.

Held under the theme “Together We Advance: Diversity, Education and Well-being in a Digital World”, AISC 2026 brought together about 150 local and international students, including delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, to exchange ideas on education, youth leadership and regional cooperation in the digital era.
