MOE to review WFH, home-based learning policies amid global oil crisis

Amid rising global oil prices due to escalating tensions in West Asia, Malaysia’s Ministry of Education (MOE) is set to hold a special meeting to review the potential implementation of Work From Home (WFH) and Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) policies. The meeting, to be chaired by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, aims to evaluate how these remote mechanisms can align with the government’s new cost-saving objectives without compromising operational effectiveness. Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad stated that the MOE will draw on its WFH experience from the Covid-19 pandemic to develop a robust strategy, and will carefully study whether extending the PdPR policy to schools is both rational and in the students’ best interests before making a final decision.

Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and the PROTON Institute have officially launched Malaysia’s first TVET-based private 5G training lab in Melaka, aiming to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industrial application. By providing students with hands-on access to enterprise-grade 5G networks, the facility will support the development of high-demand skills in areas such as automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The partnership also includes a letter of intent to co-develop a specialized 5G syllabus and industry-based placements, ensuring that the next generation of technical talent is future-ready and capable of supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation and smart manufacturing goals.
