elementor - v3.12.1 - 02-04-2023 *\/\n.elementor-widget-text-editor.elementor-drop-cap-view-stacked .elementor-drop-cap{background-color:#69727d;color:#fff}.elementor-widget-text-editor.elementor-drop-cap-view-framed .elementor-drop-cap{color:#69727d;border:3px solid;background-color:transparent}.elementor-widget-text-editor:not(.elementor-drop-cap-view-default) .elementor-drop-cap{margin-top:8px}.elementor-widget-text-editor:not(.elementor-drop-cap-view-default) .elementor-drop-cap-letter{width:1em;height:1em}.elementor-widget-text-editor .elementor-drop-cap{float:left;text-align:center;line-height:1;font-size:50px}.elementor-widget-text-editor .elementor-drop-cap-letter{display:inline-block}<\/style>\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Malaysia is observing a \u201cstrong\u201d job-switching trend among younger workers due to mismatched expectations, limited career progression, and a desire for flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) said recruitment data shows that 81% of young workers have intentions to leave their jobs within a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA significant share plan to resign within a year, reflecting a strong job-switching trend among Gen Z and millennials in the Malaysian labour market,\u201d said MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman.<\/p>\n<p>Syed Hussain described the situation as \u201cincreasingly common,\u201d and attributed this to heightened expectations among the youth regarding career progression, flexibility, and meaningful work. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere may be a mismatch between expectations and reality of the job or workplace culture, limited career progression, a desire for faster skills acquisition, and greater emphasis on work-life balance and flexibility,\u201d the MEF president said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2026\/01\/11\/youths-call-it-quits-after-18-months\">as quoted by The Star<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Industries seeing frequent job changes include Digital and Technology, Engineering, as well as Sales and Marketing. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Departures are also more noticeable after the year-end bonus period, according to Syed Hussain. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malaysia\u2019s rising labour mobility \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The MEF\u2019s findings are in line with recent data from Reeracoen Malaysia\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcamag.com\/asia\/specialisation\/recruitment\/one-third-of-southeast-asian-employees-looking-for-new-job\/438840\">indicating rising labour mobility<\/a>\u00a0over the past year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Reeracoen report found that 92% of Malaysian professionals are considering a job switch, with 76% already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hcamag.com\/asia\/news\/general\/1-in-2-employees-actively-looking-for-new-job\/229647\">actively seeking new opportunities<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The top reason for job switching for Malaysians is higher salary expectations, as less than half of employees said they received pay increases ranging from 0.1% to 4.9%. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another reason is shrinking bonuses, with 38% of employees saying they received less than one month\u2019s bonus. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Employers\u2019 talent strategies are also emerging as a barrier for to employment, as jobseekers cite protracted communication (54%) and long application processes (40%) as discouraging in recruitment. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMalaysia\u2019s job seekers are extremely active and selective today.
